I watched this because the description was a mock documentary about the history of the CSA, since in this universe the South won the War of Northern Aggression. I thought it would be heavy on the subject of states rights.

It ended up being all about slavery and mocked the concept of states rights. Apparently in this universe no one realized that slaves were actually quite expensive to keep, and that middle and lower class peeps couldn't afford them in the first place, and that agricultural technology was about to make slavery obsolete even for the plantation owners, anyway.

All in all you can skip it. Also, I'll just spoiler this bit for you: in this universe the South managed to talk the UK and France into taking their side in the war. Foreign troops first took the field with the South at Gettysburg.

I saw this a few years ago. I distinctly remember not liking it in terms of cinema or history.

To be honest though, even though everyone likes to talk about the states' rights when discussing the Civil War, they actually wrote into the Confederate Constitution that their states could NOT outlaw slavery within the state. I really wish they'd been a lot more consistent with that, because I find the notion of pulling out of the Union and interesting one when considering the Constitutionality of it.

In that case, it was a poor "confederacy" if they were still bossing the states around at the federal level.
