Ron Burgundy plays a Democrat Congressman up for re-election against nobody when he makes a public mistake. This prompts some corporate fat cats to put up a patsy as the Republican challenger, played by Alan.
The campaign gets very, very ugly.
Dylan McDermott and Jason "I am Ed Helms long lost twin brother" Sudeikis play campaign managers.
The storyline is sadly completely factual. The events in the film are ridiculous.
There are some laughs to be had though. Ferrell doesn't completely overact, and Zach twists the Alan persona just enough so that you don't feel like you're watching The Hangover: Married Alan.
Worth a dollar or Netflix.
