Here's a clip. It isn't overly interesting, but I will still prolly set the DVR with high hopes.

Well, the first five episodes were meh. But we've been told by Joss that at ep six it gets good, as that's when Fox started letting him do it his way.
He wasn't lying. It just got good.

I've heard nothing but bad things so far. I'll wait until the whole season is out and listen to those opinions.

Truth be told you could skip eps two through five (watch number one just to get the general lay of the land) and read their summaries online somewhere. They aren't very good at all and there's a very small amount of important information that you could get in summary. It's pretty clear that Fox was insisting on each episode being a separate story with little or no overall arc to the plot.
It's with episode six where the individual episode plots fall by the wayside and it's all about overall story arc.

I heard for the first several episodes, FOX required they be stand-alone episodes, and it was sort of sucky. Then they let Joss be in charge, and then he was allowed to do story arcs, which is what he is good at... but looks like it's too late. FOX already sabotaged it enough for it to fail. And now the FOX execs can say, "SEE? Told you Firefly sucked."

Yup, it was getting excellent. And now it will die.
Maybe Joss will learn the lesson this time and tell Fox to go screw themselves next time he has a project.

Apparently he's an idiot because after what they did to Firefly he said he'd never work with FOX again...

Seriously? Not even Firefly?
I don't know whether to envy you for still having that first Firefly watching ahead of you or to pity you for missing something so awesome.

Not sure how this happened as it was dead, but it has been renewed.

I'm watching the unaired pilot. It is much more like the end of the first season than the beginning. Looks like the series was intended to be more about overall story and good character development, and of course Fox pissed that away in favor of episodic shit.
Thank goodness the end of season one Joss was allowed to make it good. Here's hoping he's allowed to keep doing that next season.

Oh, but note that the unaired pilot is no longer canon. The direction of the story and some of the specifics changed a bit in the version of the series that aired. That becomes especially clear when Echo nearly kills the FBI guy that spent the aired season trying to find her.

No surprise there. At least they're wrapping it up properly instead of chipping it off at the knees. That's a nice change.
