So, I was just fartin' around on the intertubes today, and I came across this:

After discovering (or stealing, as the case may be) his powers, Thor began spreading his message of social change through lecture tours and books. He initially refused to join the Ultimates, but did help them subdue the monstrous Hulk after the U.S. President met Thor's demand of doubling the U.S.'s foreign aid budget.

My God.

That's almost as retarded as the whole Superman: Red Son story.

A lot of them are idiots. Mainly because they're well paid, sheltered individuals who have no concept of real life for the common man. Thus, they lean left politically.

However, in the case you're pointing out, I think your criticism is a bit off. The "ultimate" universe's Thor is a big time left wing hippie. It's actually a character flaw, and part of a storyline where nobody believed he was a "god". This was when the "Ultimates" (the ultimate version of the Avengers) was first forming, and all the characters were meeting.

(As I pointed out elsewhere, the Ultimate universe is an alternative to Marvel's real universe where Thor is not a left wing hippie.)

So in this case, he's written to be that way. It's the same path that DC had taken Green Arrow prior to their reboot.
