This should be called "Monsters (are just a plot device to tell a boring love story)".

NASA finds possible proof of alien life and attempts to bring it back to Earth. Things go wrong on the return above Mexico and alien life begins to live there. (None of this is shown.)

Now the northern and central parts of Mexico are the "infected zone". This is where giant aliens roam around. The Mexicans enforce the southern border while the U.S. built a HUGE wall above the northern area (think the Great Wall, only a LOT bigger).

Some tool and a chick way too fucking hot for him are trapped south of the zone and travel together to get back to the U.S. even though they are strangers and don't like each other. The guy can't act for shit, and I've seen people rip the chick's efforts, but I thought she was decent.

Anyway, they end up in the infected zone and nothing really happens. Then they get home and some stupid shit occurs that depending on your viewpoint is either a message about politics or the human condition.

Besides the false advertising and the lack of a plot, what story there was had nothing but holes. From the characters' motivations and interactions to the monsters' existence and the rules established by the filmmakers about them, nothing makes sense.

Boring and dumb, but it was well directed. Still, this film has zero action, the love story sucks, and it's not even tongue in cheek fun like Megashark versus Giant Octopus.

1 out of 10.

Spoilers below
Now, if you've seen the trailers and you see the title, what do you expect? A movie with action and monsters right? Well, you would be wrong, and according to the arthouse morons who worship this film you're an asshole who only likes Michael Bay films, and you're the reason Hollywood makes "nothing, but crap". Here's a sampling of one of these jackasses from imdb:
I personally saw it as a film saying that as soon as the US sees something it doesn't understand, it blows the hell out of it. Had these "Monsters" meaningly hurt anyone? No. But the monsters that we vote into power massacre people every day. And as for them not needing to show the monsters, the fact that when they collided at the end they did nothing but show how happy they were, suggested that all they wanted was to be among their own kind.

Oh, and don't ever watch Crash, there's only one Crash in the whole film! How disappointing..

Yeah, the "US" is the bad guy you fucking dumbass. That's why the Mexican people were living in fear and their army was forced the enforce the southern border of the zone. And yeah, "all they wanted was to be among their own kind", that's why they went over the northern wall and why they would go past the southern border. Do you have any fucking idea what creatures this size would do to the ecosystem? How much food and room they'd need? And did you see how often they reproduced? They could be the most peaceful creatures in the universe, but it'd be us or them.

Another jackass said the movie was all about suspense. He should try looking up the definition of that word.

Anyway, these "peaceful" creatures have no problem killing folks, and can apparently even bring down fighter jets. The hippies who love this film claim they don't attack unless provoked, yet there's a key scene in which one kills a bunch of guys who don't fire a single shot.

The best part is that these guys were nothing more than mercs yet they talked about the creatures and their behavior. They knew how they reproduced, what their offspring did, etc. You're telling me that actual scientists wouldn't be able to figure out that if you don't provoke them, they won't attack?

The big ending is the two main characters watching two of these monsters touch and communicate, and that makes them realize that if the monsters can do it, so can they...so they kiss. Seriously.

Oh, the monsters are nothing more than Octopi that walk and eat electricity.

I really hope Malcolm misses this review and rents it. I want to hear his alcohol fueled hatred for the filmmakers.

It was kinda yawn. It seemed like the filmmaker had a couple cool ideas he wanted to film, and made a dull movie around it.

And what was the deal with the fighter jet in the river, was an alien using it for a hat?
