Grindhouse was an experiment by directors Quentin Tarrantino and Robert Rodriguez. Two films shown in one sitting in a take off of the 70s exploitation style of film.

Planet Terror
Robert Rodriguez's take on zombie films, except over-the-top on the action. Actually, maybe a bit over-the-top of over-the-top.
Several completely random characters, each with their own plotline, try to survive a zombie horde. Rose McGowen, Bruce Willis, Sayid from Lost, and Michael Biehn are the bigger names among the survivors.
The different backgrounds for the characters are totally undeveloped and you know it's intentional. Connections between characters just pop up out of nowhere and it's more a tribute to bad movies than intentionally bad writing.
The action is just out of this world ridiculous. Especially when Freddie Rodriguez goes into action. Combine all that with lots and lots of gore.
This movie is exactly what it was supposed to be: a really cheesy over-the-top B movie. It succeeds, but quite honestly, it didn't blow me away. I think it's because I really liked the trailer for this film and had higher expectations. Not that it isn't good for what it is, I just was hoping for a bit more.
Still, it's worth a rental for film fans, but this isn't something your significant other probably won't enjoy.

Death Proof
Based on the trailers, I was not looking forward to this film. It just seemed boring and I was wondering how it could work if this guy killed girls by getting into auto accidents.
Oh, that's the plot. Kurt Russell is a stunt man who kills girls via his "death proof" car.
The true star of this film though is Tarrentino's writing and direction. He is just fucking good. The conversations flow and make the characters so damn real. The film itself could actually be considered slow, but if you're a fan of interesting characters, you won't care.
I actually enjoyed this film a lot and thought it accomplished more of the goal of Grindhouse than Planet Terror did. It brought the 70s exploitation flick to now, but infused a bit of today's attitude into the work.
The cars are very cool, the girls are hot as hell, and Kurt Russell is fantastic. See it.
