Well, that does it. 2007 becomes my Summer of Harry Potter.
I feel this is a definite ending to the series... no ambiguities, here. No cheap setting up of sequels that I saw.
This story finished strong. I'm glad I took the time to read the series, and I know I'll reread it sometime in the future. For those of you who have been avoiding the franchise on principle *cough*Leisher*cough*... I recommend you give at least the books a shot... and then at least tolerate the kid stuff until book 4-ish when it starts getting darker and more fucked up.
Thus far the movies have been, essentially, cliff-notes of the books. I know this excites Paul whose preferred way of watching movies is just to read spoiler threads and piece it together.
This movie.... very much verging on an R-Rating. From the things we've discussed in the past, if the movie actually showed the things the bad guy did "on-screen," it would have to be an R. Obviously that stuff'll be cut, but I'm just saying.

I liked it. It was about twice as long as it needed to be, but nonetheless good. Tied up the loose ends well enough.

Here's a video of Dan'l Radcliff (Harry Potter) off set and behind the scenes. Funny stuff.

Just with movies that I have no intention of watching.
I don't like watching slasher/gore/horror movies, but I like knowing the story. I'm more interested in the plot and the devices used to propel the story along.
When LotR came out I bought the books. I delayed watching the movie until I finished the first book.
The first movie ended at the beginning of book 2, so the movie spoiled Boromir's death.
Potter... if the wife didn't buy the DVD's I'd never bother watching it. Well, maybe when it was on on cable, if none of my regular shows were playing and I didn't have anything else on the DVR.

The Hogwarts gang doing a thing for the queen's 80th bday.
Part 1: Didn't suck. Pretty faithful to the book... in that they do a lot of camping....
Not perfect, but very good. One of the small scenes that meant so much.... wasn't included... but I heard they filmed it and it will probably be in the extended cut. I have no idea why they wouldn't put in the small scene between Dudley and Harry; it would have taken 10 seconds and would have meant so much to both characters.
But Part 2 is going to kick OH so much ass.

I thought the Nazis were a little ridiculous.

Yes, they did take the nazi/jew imagery pretty far... but really, I didn't have a problem with it. Reflected what I was visualizing in the book... the only time they went farther than my imagination was the propaganda assembly line room outside of Deloris's office.
