The noir hero from the video game series will be played by Mark Wahlberg.

The common links between the movie and the game it's based upon:
-The main character is Max Payne.
-His family is killed.
-There is a noir style to the story telling.
That's it. In fact, Max is a pussy compared to his video game counterpart.
This movie isn't horrible, but I don't think they needed the Max Payne license to tell this story.
The acting is decent throughout with a few moments of brilliance AND goofiness. Wahlberg is his typical self and fits this sort of character well, but I wish they had let him be tougher. He's tough, but not Max Payne tough.
Also, there is a plot device used to explain his ability to mow down the bad guys, which was "eh". Like I said, he should have been tougher.
My two main complaints:
1. The plot is very, very predictable. You'll know "who" immediately.
2. Payne doesn't act like a man obsessed with tracking down the person who killed his family. He's not out partying and such, but there isn't an urgency in some scenes when there should have been one.
Overall, it's an interesting film, but I can't recommend it to all. There is some cool stuff surrounding by the standard "by the numbers" Hollywood writing. You won't be pissed if you rent it, nor will you miss anything if you don't.
5 out of 10.
P.S. For a guy who claims to never want to do a sequel, why would Wahlberg do a film that ends with a very obvious loose thread? (IE: It sets up a sequel.)

Yeah. I had to pause it in the middle to do some things, and I had to force myself to go back and finish it.
