I'm only starting this thread to say avoid the Blu Ray that was just released. They "filtered" it up and it looks like shit and peeps are trying to get it recalled and fixed.

There are a ton of movies that haven't hit BD yet. Seem like a lot of times the studios want to release a BD with another product to cinemas that is somehow tangentially related. Lord of the Rings EE BD's will be released with the Hobbit movie, for example.
I personally think this is dumb and costs them sales, but I'm not in charge.

I was reading this morning that DVD sales still outnumber BR sales 10 to 1.
Apparently, the ad campaign hasn't worked too well.
They need to prove BR's worth more to the public, and the price has to drop. BR movies don't have that much extra content or look that much better to justify the $10 price increase.
Best Buy's BR section is a telling indicator as the vast majority of BR titles are on sale every time I'm there.

BD prices are certainly dropping. Most releases on amazon can be had in the neighborhood of $15, with the occasional sale dropping them to the $10 area. I bought 2001 BD for $9 last month. Best Buy is starting to try to match amazon a lot of times.
The problem is to see the difference from DVD you need a TV that costs a minimum of $800, after you've purchased a new BD player that will cost you at least 4x more than a new DVD player costs you.
And I still don't like the BD player firmware updates that, if not available, cripple your player for new disks. I am having fun with that now. Samsung hasn't updated my player since last xmas and new disks don't play right.
The BD format has problems, but I hope the format doesn't die off because I already have an investment in it and then I need to replace all the shit I've bough.

That's why I've stopped buying DVDs as of late.
I'll buy them only if the price is so low that I can't ignore it or if it's a TV show, which I buy on regular DVD because the quality really doesn't matter.

The LOST seasons look really good on BD, but in my opinion, yeah, I can live with the DVD versions for the most part. Especially studio comedies.
I am saving my pennies for all four seasons of BSG on BD, though. That is one series I have and will again watch multiple times through.
