as writer and directer begins filming today. If we stay on schedule, we'll wrap Sunday.

It's a horror short.

More updates after we finish shooting tonight.

I talked to the other writer. He was telling me that Leisher insisted he have a gay sex scene, even though it made no sense in the plot. Leisher only backed down when the other writer threatened to quit.

And then the other writer told Leisher, "I ate the hot dog 2 bars ago."

I stick my neck out trying to get you a scene in the movie and you bitch about it? Ungrateful SOB.

Uwe Boll?

At this point, I wish I was as good as Uwe Boll.

We started Friday and it was an absolute nightmare. We did about 7 hours of shooting and nothing will be used. I fucked up, my producer fucked up, the lighting kits we received were fucked, the set sucked, a few of the actors had issues, the big makeup effect of the movie sucked, etc.

Even worse, I didn't get to watch the Penguins beat the Red Wings.

My Director of Photography, who just got accepted into a couple the best film schools in the country, and I left set around 5 a.m. while everyone else got some sleep. We drove to our outdoor set in Michigan, then Tim Horton's and just talked about the stuff that went wrong, what we both are looking for, etc., etc. Once we figured it was time to get to Saturday's set, we came back into town, woke everyone up, and had a great Saturday on set. We followed up with another good day Sunday, although we went longer than planned.

The movie is about halfway done (remember, it's a short). We should finish shooting sometime in July or August.

Fuck. Just wait till you get to the editing phase. You'll want to deball yourself by the end.

I am not looking forward to editing. I'll be receiving a DVD this weekend with the dailies and I'm dreading it.

Still, this whole experience has been fantastic. Even on Friday when things sucked, I could still have turned to anyone and said "I directed a movie today, what'd you do?" and that's really the whole point of this project. It's something I've always wanted to do, so I set out to do it. It doesn't matter if I make an Oscar winner or a film so bad that the Razzies don't even waste their time with it.

That being said, my next goal is to vastly improve upon this weekend's experience.

"We learn from our mistakes."

It's just hard to get people to financially back those learning experiences.
