Daniel Day-Lewis stars in this period piece about a miner who becomes an oilman.

In all honestly, that's all you need to know in terms of the story. Seriously, that's the movie.

Sounds dull right? It's not.

Granted, the pace is a bit slow at times, but the story is captivating.

The cinematography, sets, and acting are fantastic. The storyline flows very well, but you have to always keep in mind that this is a story about one man and his drive to succeed only by his terms.

Daniel Day-Lewis deserved the best actor award he won for this role, but Paul Dano should have received more praise for his two roles as twin brothers. The first brother is only seen once and he sets the majority of the movie in motion. However, the second brother is where Dano shines. It is an amazing performance.

This film won't be for everyone. Again, it's a period piece and it will be hard to sympathize with most of the characters. Plus, there are moments when the pace of the film is oddly slow and some actions the characters make are not totally explained. Still, this is good film making and the story is a lot more satisfying than something like No Country For Old Men.

8.5 out of 10.

Decent flick. But yeah, it dragged slow as hell in some places.

I was under the impression there was only one guy... and he was schizophrenic with 2 personalities. There were even hints of childhood abuse which can cause dual personalities in a kid.
