Step Brothers

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Will Ferrell and John Reilly star as two 40 year-olds that still live at home with their single parent. During a conference, those parents meet and hit it off resulting in a marriage and Will and John becoming step brothers. Fanning the flames of this odd family is Will's younger brother who is successful and a huge asshole.

This film is essentially 40 Year Old Virgin except instead of being a responsible adult, the two 40 year-olds here continue to act like small children.

The plot is standard by the numbers Hollywood writing. Nothing fancy or impressive about it at all.

The humor is typical Will Ferrell humor, especially since he's a co-writer of this film. So expect lots of "dumb guy" gags and physical humor. Nothing here results in a belly laugh, but there are some chuckles.

Surprisingly, the acting isn't bad. Let me clarify, Will Ferrell and John Reilly are exactly what you expect, but the surrounding cast is impressive. Mary Steenburgen and Richard Jenkins excel as the boys' parents, Adam Scott's portrayal of Will's asshole brother is so perfect that you can't help but hate him, and Kathryn Hahn is fantastic as the asshole brother's wife.

You won't be missing anything if you skip this movie. If someone tells you that it's hilarious, they're full of shit. However, you shouldn't be disappointed if you rent it either. It's mindless entertainment with a few good chuckles.

5 out of 10.
