I am seriously trying to weasel out of some shit tonight. I'll let you know if I can go. Apparently, he's there for both the 6 and 9 shows.

9 would be better for me, I'll tell the wife I'm going out for cigarettes.

For those keeping score at home, Leisher tried for the earlier show and I tried for the later and both were sold out.

If Leisher would have answered his phone when I called him right back he could have snagged me two tickets for the later show in person, but he didn't answer so he sucks.

As soon as you move back to Memphis, you won't have to deal with that sort of horse shit.

If by "horse shit" you mean Leisher not answering his phone, then yes, I agree.

Correction: Leisher got in THEN it sold out. He didn't answer his phone because he was in the movie.

He still sucks.

I'll do a review of the movie in another thread.

The wife and I had to hit the 6 show as I was committed to watching the Steelers with my dad. What make it touch and go is that the carpet cleaners my wife had scheduled didn't show until 5.

We got very lucky.

I dropped the wife off in front of the theater so she could get tickets. Smart move as we got the last two tickets available. Amazingly, we also got two seats together in the theater.

The lady working the counter told us that we got tickets only because someone didn't show up. The dozen or so folks behind us in line weren't as lucky.

I immediately called Gordo to tell him to get tickets for the 9 as some were still available. As he said, I never got his call once I walked into the theater or I would've bought him some immediately.

Hopefully, he won't make me perform ritual suicide for my failure (and courtesy to other theater goers) of turning my phone off.

The theater was wall to wall people. They actually brought in chairs from the concession area to allow for more seats to be sold.

This was a perfect crowd for the movie because they are true fans of the genre and the star which made the experience that much better. Everyone reacted to all the inside jokes as you would expect.

Bruce came into the theater after the credits and went immediately to the front of the theater for a Q&A. The lighting was the biggest disappointment here as the front is the darkest part of the theater.

He was very funny and seemed genuine, particularly as you get the sense that it's business to him. I know that seems odd, but it works for him. He's known for not really being much of an attention hog. A totally different vibe than Kevin Smith in his "An Evening With" series. Not that Smith is an attention hog, but I think Smith plays the celebrity game a little bit better and is better on his feet with his banter.

The Q&A session was filmed, so maybe I'll be on the DVD.

Bruce answered questions about anything. Most were stupid questions like "Is there going to be a Brisco County movie?" One guy asked a question that was so bad Bruce actually called him a jackass. He did it jokingly, but not... The audience actually booed the question a bit too so it wasn't just Bruce.

Some tidbits:
-Funny bit about him being in Spider-Man 4. "Who named him? I did in part 1. Who is the only person to defeat Spider-Man? Me. I kept him out of the theater in part 2. Who is the only person to be sought out for advice by Spider-Man? Me in part 3. Will I be in the next Spider-Man? They can't make it without me!!"
-He will not be in the Bubba Hotep followup due to creative differences. He said Ron Perlman will play Elvis and Paul Giavanti will play Colonel Tom Parker. No clue if he was kidding or not.
-Because "it takes Sam Raimi 18 years to make a Spider-Man film" Evil Dead 4 is a no go right now. He then went on to say who wants to see it anyway? He said who wanted to see Indy 4? Nobody in the theater raised their hands. He said "see?" then did a hilarious impression of an aging Indy. He said nobody wants to see an old Ash fighting Deadites.
-He constantly mocked the film we just watched which he wrote and directed.
-Ditto for Toledo. Standard jokes about "celeb lands in ".
-Toledo is number 10 of 22 cities he's visiting on his tour with the film. Cleveland is next and he finishes in LA next month.
-Thanked everyone for coming out. The end.

He then left the theater and went off to locations unknown.

When we left the theater at 8 there was already a huge line of people there for the 9 p.m. show, which as Gordo has said was sold out.

Sort of funny moment tonight:

I tell me wife I'm going to go meet Leisher for this Bruce Campbell thing.
She glances at our kid, "I'd like to go too..."
I say, "You should have thought of that before you trapped me into marrying you by getting pregnant 12 years later."

I just remembered what the jackass asked: "Where did you get the money to make this crap?" He might have used a word other than crap (garbage, shit, etc.), but the question is correct. In fact, I'm thinking he might have said "keep getting", which would imply the guy isn't a Campbell fan, and that begs the question "Why was he there?"

Look, bash the film in reviews or question Campbell's choices in reviews or private interviews, I've got no problem with that. However, don't ask a question like that in a Q&A with Bruce in a theater packed with folks who paid to see the film and him.

I'm not sure if the guy was an indy filmmaker who is jealous of Campbell's success or if his mother just didn't give him enough attention as a child, but it was a huge asshole move.

I'd also like to point out that the audience was full of chicks. Not just significant others dragged along either, but chicks who were fans and asking legit questions during the Q&A. Some pretty cute ones in the bunch too.
