Someone over at Marvel got the idea years ago to let zombies invade the Marvel universe. Well, it was regarded as stupid until about 2-3 years ago when they used the idea for a "filler" storyline in Ultimate Fantastic Four.Lo and behold it was an insane hit.
Thus, Marvel went on to create "Marvel Zombies", a series featuring the surviving Marvel heroes, those that weren't eaten, as zombies. It was written by Robert Kirkman who is probably the best zombie writer on the planet right now not named Max Brooks. Pick up Kirkman's brilliant series "The Walking Dead" to see what a brutal son-of-a-bitch he is to his characters. (The Walking Dead is an indie project and completely unrelated to anything Marvel.)
What has been pretty cool is the artwork on the covers. They're painted by Arthur Suydam. All are takeoffs of famous Marvel covers throughout their history, only they've been "zombified".
