Looks like they're doing the Superman-Doomsday trilogy all in one flick. The first book is fantastic and ended with Superman's death, the other two were ok.

Since we'll never see live action versions, I'd love it if both publishers (Marvel and DC) started doing video releases like this of their most famous storylines. My only hope beyond that is that they don't dumb them down for kids or a mass audience who wouldn't buy them in the first place.

I just watched it, and I went in with no baggage... I'd never read the books.

I thought it was pretty good. A couple "Wait, why didn't he just..." moments, but all in all, I don't feel angry for having watched it. They did a good job making Lex Luthor a dick... he shocked me once or twice. Between Lex and the destruction of half of Metropolis during the big fight, this movie earned its PG-13... barely. I'd have liked to see them use their single "Fuck."

Even more interesting was the hour thing with the writers of the "Death of Superman" story arc. They were actually getting choked up when recounting certain scenes they did in order to portray the magnitude of what they were doing... killing Superman.

I'm interested to know what a comic fan thinks of this movie.

I believe it has received mixed reviews. I know they cut out a shitload of story and changed some of the key plot points to make it more friendly to kids and to a 90 minute movie.

I'm sure I'll see it soon.

It appears that it's the same dudes calling the shots as it was on Batman, Superman, Justice League, etc. I remember one of them (Bruce Timm) was constantly bitching about the censors & how'd they'd've to redraw characters or sequences. Damn PG-13 rating. I find it weird that most PG-13 flicks wouldn't include the "uncut" or "R" rated version if they'd to cut things out to get a lower rating. An interesting bit of trivia ...
Kevin Smith appears animated as himself with one line: "Pff, like we really needed him to bust up the mechanical spider right? Lame!" This is a reference to the requirement made by producer Jon Peters, that Kevin Smith include a giant spider in the film ‘Superman Lives’, to be given the position of director (the project was canceled, in favor of Superman Returns). Kevin Smith wanted to use the same basic plot of ‘Superman: Doomsday’ for ‘Superman Lives’.

I WONDERED if that was supposed to be Kevin Smith.

And knowing how Smith feels about mechanical spiders (nature's most deadly assassin), I should have known for sure.

Oh, also, after having seen Superman Returns, it was nice to see Superman actually fighting and punching things for a chance.

You're wife's a peach to have your children and put up with your shitty choice of movies. :D I'm referring to the zombies on a plane movie not Doomsday.

She won't watch that. I'll watch that after she goes to bed. She rented Even Almighty and 1408 to watch with me.

I did not get my hands on Superman Doomsday. It'll have to wait.
