Synopsis :
A washed-up actor whores himself out for a Japanese whiskey. During his promos, he meets a photographer's bored & neglected wife. Then, a very twisted, sick hilarity ensues.

Review :
I've gotten a myriad of opinions about this flick. I have disregarded them all & formed my own.

Calling this film a comedy is tenuously stretching the limits of the meaning of that word. It's only a comedy in that, given the subject matter, it tries to make fun of it as best it can. I laughed my ass off when Bill Murray put down the phone after the conversation w\ his wife & said, "Well, that was a stupid idea." I also found it funny that his wife kept faxing him shit about the floors, carpets, drapes, & shit even whilst he was halfway across the globe.

Moving away from things comedic, this has to be the most fucking depressing film I've ever seen. Period. You get to see a lot of why it sucks to be tethered to someone you probably shouldn't even know in the first place. And then how it sucks to have that go on for two or three decades. And then how much it sucks knowing that it's a very common thing and happens unless you're exceedingly careful.

This may be the ultimate anti-romantic comedy. Whereas one can make you doe-eyed and cheerful (allegedly -- I have no firsthand experiences to go on), this one will make you cynical and melancholy.

Verdict : 9 of 10. If you feel optimistic or good & you wish to keep that buzz going, do not watch this film. If you wish to feel optimistic or good because of this film, do not watch it. If you want validation that most people in the world do not, and perhaps cannot, communicate on any meaningful level, then this script was written specifically for you.

The only review that has ever made me curious to see the film. Good job.

Can I assume it's comparable to About Schmict(sp?) in that it's a truly depressing look at marriage for most folks?
