Buffalo Bill takes his family out to LA and gets lost in the desert somewhere on the way. The real problem is that there is a family of mutants waiting to kill his family.
They turned The Hills Have Eyes into a gory Texas Chainsaw Massacre set in the desert. There's the big dumb guy, the smarter leader, the freak who doesn't move, the chick, etc.
I hate horror films like this one. It's all about the gore and shock factor and not about anything actually scary. Hey Hollywood, if I wanted to watch something that would make me nervous about my family's safety I'd watch the news. The horrors they show there can occur in my home. I don't even need to pack the family up and take them to the desert.
There's also a political message or two which is standard for Hollywood. Here, you had the "Nukes are bad, mmmK?" and something else that I'm not sure was intentional...
*SPOILERS IN THE NEXT PARAGRAPH***
Early in the film, a cop and his kid mock a Dem (It's what they call him) for being a pussy because he won't and can't handle a gun. Later, he comes to the realization that he is a pussy and could have stopped some things. That's when he mans up and fights violence with violence.
*END SPOILERS*
Again, not sure if that was political, but considering they went out of their way to call him a "Dem", it makes one wonder.
Anyway, the film is mildly entertaining, but nothing you haven't seen before.
