It took several U.S. agencies FOUR YEARS to pull off this shit ...
Latest raid results.
Since the commencement of "Project Coronado", the investigation has led to the arrest of more than 1,186 people and the seizure of approximately $33 million. Overall, almost 2 metric tons (2.2 short tons) of cocaine, 1,240 kilograms (2,700 lb) of methamphetamine, 13 kilograms (29 lb) of heroin, 7,430 kilograms (16,400 lb) of marijuana, 389 weapons, 269 vehicles, and the two drug labs were seized.
So, the four-year op culminates & turns up ...
$33 mil ... of the $400 BILLION estimated trade in illegal drugs
2 tons of coke = ~4400 kilos ... Columbia has enough land to produce 40,000 kilos per year. That's not counting the other cash-strapped dictatorships down there.
3K #s of meth ... I'll VERY conservatively estimate that there's thousands of labs worldwide. The top couple hundred can easily churn out 20 tons per month. 20*12*200 = 48000 pounds per year. That's just those top 200.
30 #s of smack ... about 500 tons are produced annually
16.4K #s of bud (think of all the people that would've OD'd on that ... ) ... about 23000 tons produced annually.
Yeah, what a fucking victory. Four fucking years. If we turned around & sold that merchandise on the black market, we could make a huge profit.

Reminds me of the Bloom County strip where the DEA announces they've confiscated 0.001345% of the drug supply leading to drastic consequences, like a rise of of drug prices by 0.001345%.

The best way to fight the "war on drugs" would be for the government to start selling them.

Would there be a public option?

War on drugs is still absolutely worthless.
A University of Michigan study has found that drug use among college students has largely been trending up since 2007. Marijuana use has been on the rise, which should come as no surprise given recent legalization efforts. More worrisome, however, has been a rise in the use of other drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy.
In short, the only thing they've cut down is ciggie use. Everyone also drinks like a goddamn fish, but that's somehow acceptable.
The study’s principal investigator, Lloyd Johnston, pointed out that the rise in amphetamines, which has risen from 5.7% in the prior 12 months to 10.1% in 2014, may actually be tied to students seeking to increase their performance in school.
HAHAHAHAHA. Eventually, tuition will include a stipend for a few lines per day.

Feds organize a large circle jerk for themselves after a meaningless "win."
Authorities confiscated at least 12 tons of marijuana with a street value of $6 million and arrested 22 people in San Diego and Tijuana in connection with the one of the largest tunnels uncovered in recent years.
"We see a super tunnel open for business once every year or so," U.S. Attorney Laura Duffy of Southern California said in a statement. "Just when traffickers think they're ready to move, we put them out of business."
Laura, you're a dim bitch. I guarantee goddamn tee you not one major cartel gives a flying fuck if they lose $6M and a tunnel. Know why? Because the needle-dicked DEA and federal agents that go after them keep the fucking price drugs artificially inflated.

Feds spend fuck knows how much time to confiscate ~3K bags of weed. Relax everyone, your Cheetos are safe ... for now.

Come on, man. That half million worth of lost merchandise is going to cripple an industry that trades in tens of billions of dollars annually. You amazingly got the coefficient correct, but not the exponent.
$500K of seized bud / $30B estimate of worldwide black market annual trade = 0.00017%

Well, that comic was written 28 years ago... so excuse the math error.

This doesn't exactly belong in the other thread, it seems more appropriate here with the point I want to make. [url=http://www.cbsnews.com/news/north-carolina-community-on-edge-after-officer-fatally-shoots-man-during-chase-akiel-denki
ns/]Young, black dude[/url] gets shot while running away from cops.
Denkins had previous drug convictions and was released on $10,000 secured bond in October after being charged with two counts of selling or delivering cocaine and one count of felony possession of cocaine with intent to sell or deliver, according to court documents. He failed to show up for a court date and an order for his arrest was filed Friday.
I'm not here to go on about the shooting, yet, because there's a chance he was armed or waving a pistol around.
Judith Lewis, a woman who described herself as a community activist who has lived in the area for years, said a lot of drug activity takes place in the neighborhood at night. She blamed it on buyers coming in from elsewhere.
"It's an open-air market," she said.
I hope the high morals of the drug crusaders is worth labeling non-violent criminals felons and shooting or imprisoning said felons. Dude had zero convictions besides drugs, from what I can tell. $10K for 3 blow charges? Fuck off. I wouldn't want to go to a bullshit court date, either. If only there were a designated retailer of drugs, like a liquor store, but for drugs ... because booze doesn't qualify, I guess.

Yeah, so that's in the town Thib lives in, next door to where I live. It was in the paper this morning.
All these people upset, crying on about how this dad won't see his children or brothers again. Fucking lifetime criminal with more than 10 crimes, etc.
Hey people, try not being criminals.

Fucking lifetime criminal with more than 10 crimes, etc.
Is there anything besides drug possession? Did he snatch a purse or anything?

Dunno, don't recall the entire article.
OK, I googled. Here's your hero, Malcolm.
It was not Denkins' first brush with law enforcement. Records show he had been arrested 16 times on 26 charges since 2011.
The charges include assaults on females, resisting officers, carrying a concealed gun, and possession with intent to sell and distribute cocaine.

That last one is not definitive because small amounts really meant for personal use are sometimes charged with intent to sell because the laws on that point are retarded. Resisting arrest could well be bullshit, too. But there's no excuse for the other two.

If the cop he resisted was female, bam, another charge, "assault on female."

It's a trade off: if he assaulted the cop then resisting arrest would be legit again.

I remain dubious. Yeah, if all the charges are legit, then automatic scumbag, but, I mean fuck.... some cops will already shoot you if you have a bad attitude, I think even more are willing to pile on every charge they can think of even if it's bullshit.
I don't know why I'm even arguing this point, I don't really care, but I think we all know how throwing one elbow accidentally could result in 5 charges.

US tools proud of the 14 tons of coke they seized. Not bad. That means there's only another 275 metric tons to seize ... from Columbia. Then another 250 from the rest of the coke-producing world. Hopefully they can wrap that up before the end of the year so they can go back to doing it again and pissing away resources next year.
