Their black female CEO is being called racist.
Her comment:
Eh.
On one hand, I don't think anything she said was wrong. She, clearly, benefits from diversity, so why wouldn't she be a champion of it? Plus, it's not like diversity is a bad thing. It can be invaluable in helping corporations make decisions. If you're selling purses to black women and your board is all straight white males, what the fuck do they know about their target market?
On the other hand, how about hiring the best folks for the job despite their skin color or sex?
Her comment:
"Just today we met with a supplier and the entire other side of the table was all Caucasian males. That was interesting," Brewer said. "I decided not to talk about it directly with [the supplier's] folks in the room because there were actually no female, like, levels down. So I’m going to place a call to him."
