Joe's Crab Shack takes the first step.
I don't know how I feel about this policy.
I'm a bit tipper, so I think it would fuck workers out of additional money, but maybe that average out with bad tippers?
Will they work as hard?
I'll bet that some people will continue to tip and eventually we'll just end up paying more and still have to tip.

I think "won't work as hard" is the prime thing.

As long as they get paid enough in salary to make the difference it makes sense, and reportedly workers at these places are happier because their income is steadier. And studies have shown that quality of service only effects tips by 1% anyway. Any servers that have realized this would already fall into the postulated not working as hard category if that were a thing.
Adam Ruins Everything did a pretty decent video on it.

This will likely lead quickly to "won't be employed as long".

I Ubered today for the first time. There is no tipping. Super nice.

How long until "social pressure" brings back tipping, anyway? Ever? Pizza guys making $15/hour and still spitting on your pie if you are a known bad tipper?

I saw a woman's FB post about this issue and she said, "Where's the motivation to refill drinks or check on a table?"
I was thinking, "Weird. I don't get tips at my job yet I do everything that needs to be done because I take pride in my work and want to stay employed."
What a concept!

Are you suggesting a waiter has the same motivation as an IT manager to do a good job?

This, except Sicily and France. Spain and Israel weren't too bad. But they don't use real money in any of those places so it is hard to know what you are spending.

In many ways, it's the France of the Mediterranean. No, I take it back, even France isn't so economically screwed that their debt is more than 100% of their GDP. I believe they're #2 right after the geniuses in Greece.

Data I found says debt as % of GDP in Spain:
97.6% in 2012.
Italy: 134.1% in 2014.

They fuck and cook better whatever hell hole spawned you.
And if they need money, they'll just protect their neighbor for a small fee.
