Most people will be staring at their phones or the TV in the seat back, and most people understand when you tell them you don't want to talk. I have little problem with this.

No on so many levels. Passengers are slow enough getting out of a plane already. This only exacerbates the issue.

I was on a flight earlier this year where I ended up facing a stewardess with nothing between us. This happened during takeoff and landing. She was pretty good looking so for a moment it was nice, but as it went on it got more awkward. I didn't want to look ahead because I was afraid it'd make her think I was staring at her and she'd be uncomfortable. She seemed to be going through the same thought process as me. We'd eventually make eye contact several times, and despite some small talk it was still not a great situation.
An airplane is not a night club. I'm not there to socialize. I don't need forced interaction.
Let's look at the pros and cons.
Pros:
-Airlines make more money per flight.
Cons:
-Customer satisfaction drops.
-Bathroom visits become a nightmare.
-Flights become VERY awkward.
-The least booked and picked seat on a plane (middle seat) doubles in number. Hooray?
-No leg room anywhere.
-During drink service you'll have to be careful not to knock over your neighbor's drink/snack.
-Under seat storage looks like it'll suck.
-Sitting next to a lover becomes a fuckton less intimate and far less convenient.
-No more leaning on your traveling partner to sleep.
-Go back and look at their images. Now insert Americans.
This idea is complete shit.
