We were talking about that shit at work last week. My argument was that it'll get harder to get a decent job without a degree, in spite of the degrees becoming more worthless and expensive at the same time.

My argument was that it'll get harder to get a decent job without a degree, in spite of the degrees becoming more worthless and expensive at the same time.
I would stipulate that this will only be true at large companies and corporations that run primarily off of bureaucratic inertia. At smaller and better companies they won't give two craps about the degree, they'll want to see a portfolio showcasing your expertise.

Not always true.
In IT departments, if HR isn't doing the hiring certificates are more important than degrees.
But yeah, it's yet another issue in our country that degrees are so important despite the fact that we know the entire college system is about as legit as banking and insurance at this point. Yes, it serves a function, but most people are just getting fucked.

Big companies are "successful." The majority of sheep managers will follow suit and try to hire the same type of worker as the big places, just in smaller volumes.

My little company is pretty successful and actively try to avoid corporate bullshit. We hire based on merit. A degree is nice, but it's not the end all be all.

That problem all lies in the fact that it's the people with degrees making the hiring decisions, and they want to support their fantasy that degrees = competence.

A small company doesn't have the luxury to be as stupid and wasteful with their payroll dollars as a big company. If they do they don't stay in business very long.

I did a kickstarter thing for a company that was going to measure my telomeres.
So far they've delayed twice. So... who knows.

The small places I've worked for all have some bottleneck of stupidity eventually somewhere. It's less stupidity overall compared to a large corporation, but all it takes is one idiot in the wrong position and a huge number of people get fucked.

I've been thinking a little lately about how neither your chronological nor biological age are actually your age.
For example, "I" don't exist prior to daycare, since my first memory is of some bitch trying to make me drink milk despite an allergy.

Then there's the other shit that factors in. Physical age, mental age, etc. Chronological seems most useless and arbitrary of all. If it weren't for ease of measurement, we'd probably disregard it except for birthdays.
