Rush
Rush is a deal where they sell X amt of something at a very big discount. But you can only win by responding quickly enough when the 14,000 slots are filled.
It's up to 12,000 right now. They have 14 of them, so 1 in 1000 chance.

A lottery for the right to purchase something for cheap on very short notice?

Used in the same as any other product lottery I would guess. To give your personal info away for sales and marketing purposes.

They deny that explicitly.

I figure it's mostly a way for them to get new users. At any rate, please sign up so this damned thing will trigger

It finally triggered. 4 claimed in the first pass. 2 more claimed in the next pass. So still 8 remaining.
The time to claim is 10 minutes.

I don't know. I assume winners get an email, maybe they don't.
As a loser, the only notification I got was onscreen/.

So if I'm reading it right, once a certain number of people are waiting it triggers the "sale" and x number of random winners are picked and notified somehow.
If you "lose" 5 times in a row, you're entered into a loser's bracket.
