Christ. 9 million daily prescription users.
But that’s only part of the picture. Experts believe there are millions more who try options like over-the-counter medicines or chamomile tea, or simply suffer through sleepless nights.
For comparison, the number of estimated daily bud users is ~20M. I'm sure none of the aforementioned 9 million abuse their prescriptions in any way and no doctors prescribe those pills unnecessarily.

I used to take sleeping pills for a brief while. It was actually kinda fun to take them, then try really hard to stay awake. Results unpredictable.

Circadian rhythm is not something I'd recommend fucking with lightly. The fact that millions have trouble with its proper regulation is worrisome.

I have sleeping issues. My mind is too busy to sleep, so it wasn't uncommon to lay there for hours before finally nodding off.
I never took sleeping pills (other than Nyquil a couple times) but if I was desperate to sleep I'd just drink booze before bed.
I had a few experiences where I'd lay on the sofa on a Saturday afternoon and listen to a podcast, only to wake up an hour later. I didn't even know I was tired.
I figured out that listening to the podcast let me focus on only once thing, which kept my brain from constantly churning from subject to subject. That let me fall asleep.
I took the iPod into the bedroom and by using it I fall asleep within ten minutes.

My computer plays ocean sounds at me for 30 minutes, but I'm always asleep after about 10.
My problem for a long time was heat. I can't sleep when I'm hot, and I put off a lot of body heat that the mattress just soaks up and reflects back at me. But a few months ago I soved that problem. It's not quite as powerful as I'd like, but it does a good enough job if I turn it on at least 10 minutes before going to bed.
