You would think educated people well versed in the law would make excellent legislators...
No, I wouldn't. Why would anyone think that? What does education have to do with an inherent grasp of fairness, objectivity, and not being a greedy bastard?

One has to have knowledge of the law to truly become a master of manipulating the law for ones own gain.

That doesn't seem like being creative so much as being a weasel (at best) or being destructive (at worst).

Why can't it be both? I think the great majority of elected legislators are, objectively speaking, scum.
