At a historic low, and they don't give a fuck.
Yep, this is EXACTLY what our forefathers envisioned. A government that doesn't give a fuck about it's people.
This is in no way similar to the situation that made them grab their guns and revolt...

Let me know when you can get your own fleet of stealth bombers. I'll see about organizing the rest of the revolution.

I don't really feel like the military has any love for the current administration.

I'm waiting for a major general to tell the commander-in-chief to go fuck himself. The military doesn't require you to like your superior, they just require you to follow his orders.

Lawful orders.
Things will get gray when the new law is, "The military is required to attack seditious American cities when Lord Obama says so."

Politicians in this country don't wage domestic war with the military might. It's legal and financial. Have fun convincing people to say no to selling our their fellow citizens in the long term for personal gain in the short.

I think when the first disillusioned senator goes live on Fox News and says, "The American people were right, their government truly does not care about them," which will be ignored by every other news network, acts of terrorism at the private homes of government officials will go up, and the counties around DC will go under martial law.
Then things will get REALLY fucked up.

The gov't cares about them to the extent they'll vote for them later. I see two possibilities:
a) the common voter is more easily duped
b) the greedy bastards have gotten better at duping the voters
These are not mutually exclusive.

Why actually bother pandering to voters, when you have the media and all the useful idiots begging for the chance to lick your boots at any time?
I saw somewhere the "Biggest Lie of the Year" award went to Romney saying Jeep was going to move production to China. My own family around here was spreading the "what a liar!" lines when it happened, and I provided them with a Forbes article that claimed the company that owns Chrysler (which owns Jeep)... I am blanking on the name at the moment... their CEO said they were building a Jeep production plant in China, and they would look at moving production there. The CEO of Chrysler, 3 days later, said, "Nuh uh." So, one guy said no, but HIS BOSS said maybe, and that becomes the biggest lie of the year because they said so.
My own family didn't care when I provided the source for Romney's statements, they said I would never change my mind because, and I quote, "He will believe what he wants to believe." So.
There is no competing with that. Politicians no longer need to pander because reality is whatever the media says it is, and the media is ready to serve. No one on "that side" believes FAUX NEWS, so they might as well not even exist as they only preach to the choir.
I had a person on my facebook wall just today blaming her rising health insurance costs on the republicans in the House. Sigh.
Resistance is futile.

For comparison.
Public Policy Polling asked Americans a series of either-or questions between Congress and some traditionally unpleasant alternatives. As it turns out, Congress lost out to root canals, the rock band Nickelback, colonoscopies, traffic jams, Donald Trump, France, the warlord Genghis Kahn and cockroaches.
I think the loss to Nickelback hurts most.
On the plus-side, Congress was preferred to the Kardashians, North Korea, the ebola virus, Lindsay Lohan, Fidel Castro, meth labs, communism and gonorrhea.
