I really don't get this. I'll never get this. Nudity is fine. Violence is not.

It's those puritan values. Smiting heathens - even unto death - is a-okay and fun for the kids. But there better not be any fornicating going on!
Even more modern folks who think they've set aside their puritan ancestry are saddled with that sort of thinking. It's culturally ingrained.

I have this conversation with my wife quite a bit regarded our kid watching Rated R/PG-13 movies.
I was watching Tenacious D one day with the kid around, and she got mad. I told her that it's just a couple of fat guys running around pretending to smoke week and dropping F bombs... nothing that is going to traumatize the kid and give him nightmares.
But, I won't let him watch Rated PG- Poltergeist, because that shit is child nightmare fuel and it WOULD fuck with him.
She doesn't understand why I would let him watch Terminator right now, but not Poltergeist.

Throughout the ages, mankind has always had the notion that they it use the tools of violence to for the betterment of creation. While it is sometimes the only option, as Sun Tzu reminds us, when you have to send the soldiers off to war, it means somebody somewhere fucked up royally. It should be the last option. It's important that society doesn't roundly condemn it, because then there's no teeth behind any threats. It separates the wheat from the chaff, the weak from the strong, goddamnit.
Fucking (& nudity by association), on the other hand, has been seen as the weasely way to power. Perhaps more importantly, this goes back to common psychological bullshit we all carry in our heads. Everyone usually has a dream where they find themselves at work/school/wherever with no clothes. That's because everyone's got a common fear of being "uncovered" or having all their bullshit found out. Finally, there's the general feeling that "violence can get things done." Sure, occasionally. Nudity doesn't have that same "something might have gotten accomplished" reputation. It's chalked up to vanity or lust.
