I think the current discussion of this is buried in either the Republican or Obama threads.

Anyway, Ohio just voted to eliminate the PARCC testing and, unfortunately, replace it.

http://www.kctv5.com/story....c-tests

To reiterate what I think I said elsewhere, in January a letter went home from the school saying PARCC testing was going to be happening soon, but it would not interfere with normal schoolwork... but what actually happened is that all normal schoolwork stopped for about 2 months and all they did was teach to the PARCC tests, because teacher evaluations and raises and shit depended on the scores, so the teachers' union told them to focus only on the test, and there were a bunch of bullshit punishment inflicted on the kids who didn't do well on practice tests, and there were very few assignments to make up their actual grades for the entire 3rd quarter, and about half of the 4th.

If the recent local school levy hadn't passed they were going to cut all art/gym/music and tech classes, amongst a ton of other things, and my kid was going to the private school where he's already been accepted. But the levy passed, and PARCC is gone, so I guess we stick it out, for now.

But anyway, PARCC is on its way to being dead in Ohio.

Well, he must be smarter than the Common Core. He remembered to blur his address, but not his 9 digit zip code. Dumb ass.

Results from urban areas underscore stubbornly persistent economic ... achievement gaps.

Education officials admit they're disappointed and a little surprised. What's going on?

Well, sure. It's by no means universal, but there are some people who are poor because they are dumb. And there are some people who are rich because they are smart. But there's almost no one that is poor because they are smart or rich because they are dumb.

So when you look at the big picture there's always going to be stubbornly persistent economic achievement gaps. Forever.

Hey!

We said fuck it, our local school system has lost their way, and enrolled him in private school next year. The #2 (or 4? I forget) school in Ohio. 100% college admission rate, 70% get their first choice, yaddah yaddah.

Also, as July I'm broke, so don't expect me to buy you anything.

That's only a 75% chance of an indefensible rape accusation.

I'm honestly hoping he ends up gay. The world is becoming hostile to straight, white men.

Why must you be so binary? As if straight and gay were the only options. Sheesh.

There have been studies where goats were raised by sheep and became sexually attracted to sheep instead because of it.

Have you considered enrolling him in FFA?

Nothing he said precluded other options.

It was.a system so bad that it brought everyone together to sing about it's stupidity.

Though, a do remember a few defenders here and there.

My kid's 8th grade math book has CC on the cover, and yet the teacher mainly assigns Kahn Academy lessons. Interesting.

As the people who invented it said, it's a great system, but not for K-12 to learn math.
