I think the current discussion of this is buried in either the Republican or Obama threads.
Anyway, Ohio just voted to eliminate the PARCC testing and, unfortunately, replace it.

To reiterate what I think I said elsewhere, in January a letter went home from the school saying PARCC testing was going to be happening soon, but it would not interfere with normal schoolwork... but what actually happened is that all normal schoolwork stopped for about 2 months and all they did was teach to the PARCC tests, because teacher evaluations and raises and shit depended on the scores, so the teachers' union told them to focus only on the test, and there were a bunch of bullshit punishment inflicted on the kids who didn't do well on practice tests, and there were very few assignments to make up their actual grades for the entire 3rd quarter, and about half of the 4th.
If the recent local school levy hadn't passed they were going to cut all art/gym/music and tech classes, amongst a ton of other things, and my kid was going to the private school where he's already been accepted. But the levy passed, and PARCC is gone, so I guess we stick it out, for now.
But anyway, PARCC is on its way to being dead in Ohio.
