I know old people and they all like a cup of coffee at night before bed and then they go to sleep. As far as I know it is caffeinated. My mother offered me a cup one night when I was over there, and I declined saying I needed to be asleep before 3am. She seemed surprised that caffeine at 9pm would keep me awake, at my age.
What the hell is up with that?

It's not an old people thing, it's an acclimation thing. I can't have caffeine after lunch, because I never drink caffeine. Otherwise, I'll be up to midnight.
But, when I used to drink 5 cokes a day, I could have them any time and it didn't matter.

Yeah, suppertime is my limit. A big glass of tea at 6 and I am good to be asleep by 11.

What Catt said. When I was hitting the AA meetings regularly, I didn't bat an eye at a cup or three before bed time. Now I have my last one around 3:30 in the afternoon or I don't sleep well.

It depends on how much boredom my day is going to slam down on my brain. Monday - Friday, I go through 32 oz of energy drinks (two tallboys). Weekends, zero. Unless I have to get up for some reason, then half the weekday standard.
Weirdest caffeine intake I ever saw was this dude I knew that worked at a club. Would slam the ~8 oz Red Bulls while cleaning from 2am - whenever (usually 5 or so in the morning). Sometimes double digits. It's like, "How the fuck do you get to sleep after work?"

I only drink tea and water. I find drinking tea late doesn't really affect me. The downside is a cup in the mid-afternoon doesn't wake me up much either.

Weeknight gaming, I like to have something to wet my whistle, but it's gotta be decaff, otherwise I am awake until 4 and the day starts at 6:30.
I like my caffeine hot in the morning, and cold in the afternoon.

Coworker of mine drinks a few cups of coffee a day. He tried some tea once. Made him light-headed enough to scare him off from the substance permanently.
