Where is it?
A pilot's theory.
I have a FB friend who's speculating it was hijacked and flown to Iran where it will be converted into a weapon.
I love the internet.

Has he also explained the part of how funding this operation and keeping it covered would be cheaper than buying/building something?

I figure it crashed somewhere other than where they're looking. It's always a mystery until you know what happened.
There was a yacht some year ago they found and everyone was gone. Plates and glasses out like they'd just finished eating and were gone. The bodies were found washed ashore some miles away, and they'd figured out that everyone ate dinner and had a little wine and they'd decided to go for a swim. But no one dropped the ladder. Had the bodies not been found in their swimming attire, that would have been a GREAT mystery.

Some form of hijacking becoming more likely.
Is it still a hijacking if the crew did it?

If that plane is used to nuke or bomb some american city, we can wave goodbye to the government pretending that all citizens aren't suspects. It'll be clear and open hostility.

I have a FB friend who suggested that theory days ago.

"Based on new satellite information, we can say with a high degree of certainty that the aircraft communications ... system was disabled just before the aircraft reached the East Coast of peninsular Malaysia," the Prime Minister said. "Shortly afterward, near the border between Malaysian and Vietnamese air traffic control, the aircraft's transponder was switched off."
Just a thought, but maybe make some system people cannot just turn off?

Good to know we put up with all this NSA spying bullshit so they can give us definitive answers in mysterious cases like this.

If it is being weaponized:
I would load up a nuke and head to NYC. I think Russia probably has some nukes they would part with at the moment. Lots of air traffic there, and who is to say they couldn't clone a legit transponder (I hope we have some other way to identify a plane from far away). How wide is the EMP effect if set off, say, 7 miles up? They don't even need to get close to a city to shut it down, I think.

I think for the EMP to impact much outside of the blast radius it has to be outside the atmosphere. Can't swear to that.

From here...
A high-altitude nuclear detonation produces an immediate flux of gamma rays from the nuclear reactions within the device. These photons in turn produce high energy free electrons by Compton scattering at altitudes between (roughly) 20 and 40 km. These electrons are then trapped in the Earths magnetic field, giving rise to an oscillating electric current. This current is asymmetric in general and gives rise to a rapidly rising radiated electromagnetic field called an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). Because the electrons are trapped essentially simultaneously, a very large electromagnetic source radiates coherently.
The pulse can easily span continent-sized areas, and this radiation can affect systems on land, sea, and air. The first recorded EMP incident accompanied a high-altitude nuclear test over the South Pacific and resulted in power system failures as far away as Hawaii. A large device detonated at 400500 km over Kansas would affect all of CONUS. The signal from such an event extends to the visual horizon as seen from the burst point.

Oh shit, Ricky.
"The MH370 captain's flight simulator showed someone had plotted a course to the southern Indian Ocean," JACC said in late July.
"The simulator information shows only the possibility of planning. It does not reveal what happened on the night of the aircraft's disappearance, nor where the aircraft is located," the group said in an earlier statement.
