So what was the magic?

Currently running a backup. The first in a year, so I am glad I was able to get the board back up with the current database.

Suspect it may have been an SQL Injection attack on the forum. Or maybe just a glitchy hard drive at the host. They certainly don't know either way.

Possibly forum software change coming soon.

I am so tired that I didn't bother to save the files that got overwritten at 11:57 yesterday, for examination. I went to the last backup I had and re-overwrote the affected cgi files with "known good" versions. That got us back up.

Like I said, exported the dbase in case we get hit again, and if anyone feels like it we can start looking at new software that has been updated in the last 5 years.

Possible problem: we have 100mb for the database. I learned yesterday that we are currently using 75mb of it. This could define the way we bring a new forum online... we won't be able to run full data sets side by side to make sure the new one works before we unplug the old one.

You can create multiple databases with 1and1. I know that my account is allowed up to 50, 100MB each.

Oooh, 100 each. I misinterpreted what I read.

Board is going a little screwy again today, but looks like it self-corrected. Anyone else notice anything?
