What's all the hub bub? Other than standard conspiracy shit. A thread blew up on Nextdoor regarding them. All kinds of crazy stuff being posted. One poster: They can see inside your car and access all of your devices!

I want to post: If you carry a cellphone, you have no room to be complaining about invasion of privacy. They are complain about a camera that captures a random moment in time, from a device that tracks your exact location, 24/7, can listen to you 24/7, can watch you 24/7, etc. Dumb.

That being said, I don't think they watch 24/7, but I do think they listen.

Because it's Big Brother.

You're not wrong about cell phones, BUT there are ways a person can reduce a phone's intrusions/spying. Flock cameras give no such options. They're watching everything you do, where you go, etc.

One problem is the claim is that they do not track people, but they clearly do based on everything that has come out. I saw these cameras (or something exactly like them) demoed at DTW a few years back, and I assure you, they are tracking everyone and everything. In that demo, a camera was watching a typical city street. AI was identifying people via face scans, scanning license plates, analyzing their movements, and then making recommendations about potential illegal activity.

And here's the biggest problem: They're SUPER easy to hack.

Somewhat related? In the wake of the NBA Finals, someone posted all of the captured images from Madison Square Garden. It was tens (hundreds?) of thousands of people and even included information about each attendee.

This is going to sound weird, but in a high trust, free society there must be the ability to have privacy, and honestly, do something wrong. If there are cameras watching your every step, and all but physically preventing you from even littering, you're not free.

The US is not a high trust society. It's like medium or medium-high maybe.

I'm torn. I'm a big believer in "you have no privacy rights in public," but also that I want as much privacy as I can have. But also want all the criminals caught + in jail forever.

Depends where you are. It could be every where, but we do not properly punish criminals. Go look at every major city in the country and the statistics show that a very small percentage of people are the ones committing the crimes over and over and over again. I know we posted something here about around 250 or so people in NYC are responsible for some insane percentage of all theft there and the police chief in Atlanta just said 1,000 people are responsible for the majority of crime in his city. Etc.

I'm right there with you. However, I have to think the government tracking its people leads to far worse things than the alternative.
