AI and humans have gone to war after AI nukes LA. The West has banned AI, but the East still develops and works with it. One American is stuck between the two worlds and is the key to stopping a secret weapon the AI side has developed.
Based on the effects, battles, etc. you'd expect this to have had a massive budget, but it was only $80M. That is, far and away, the most impressive thing about this movie. Seriously Hollywood, take fucking notes. Seriously, if you watch it, you'll think this was north of $250M to make.
The acting is good, the cinematography is fantastic, again the effects are outstanding, etc.
The unfortunate thing is the script is kind of a mess. It's plodding, predictable, has several glaring holes, is filled with cliches, etc.
It also didn't need to be 2 hours and 13 minutes. 90 minutes would have been plenty.
Absolutely worth seeing for the effects, however at 2 hours and change of this slow story, I cannot recommend it.
