Tony Revolori is driving from Texas to LA to attend art school. During his trip, his car breaks down and he finds a mechanic who just got fired, Jason Mantzoukas. Mantzoukas asks for a ride in exchange for the repair and Tony gets a lot more than he expected. Mantzoukas' isn't playing his normal wacky role (Rafi or Adrian Pimento), but he's still a shitshow.
This is completely a character piece and nothing else. There is no overall plot aside from Mantzoukas being a shitshow and Revolori learning from his antics.
The performances really carry the film, and Mantzoukas' character, while a shitshow, isn't so over the top that you can buy into it being real.
It's an odd couple road trip movie, and it's a formula we've seen many times before. If you like these types of films, this is good. Not great, but good.
