Scooty found this video of a massive fight:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLqb-m1ZZUA
What I found interesting was, it looks like there were about 5000 ships in the fight (based on my best interpretation of the eve kill sheet). Back in the day, when a fight of a couple 100 ships broke out, the server would lag 95% of us, and the other 5% (normally the ones that were there first) would kill all the disconnected people. Now, instead of laging some, they lag all. They slow time down on the server. This allows the server to process all requests being made. Instead of trying to process 100's of requests per second (and failing), it processes them over minutes. So, ya, fights take a really long time. So long, you target lock, then go get something to eat! Which I found to be an interested solution. What would be cool is if they could then start dynamically adding servers to that node to speed it back up to real time. But anyway, seemed like a pretty fair way to deal with the situation of massive fleet battles.
Estimated dollar value of assets committed to fight $350,00-400,00. Losses are estimated at $30,000.

The server is ... batch processing? That's like a roster sim with shiny graphics and a chat interface.

No... It's load control/throttling.

Lock on target. Wait how long? Then damage gets dealt. Everything gets tuned down to super slo-mo. If you slow things down to the pace of chess, then something in the real time aspect of combat gets lost.

I cannot tell what is going on in that video. Looks cool though.

Yeah, 1) it's nice that everyone gets slowed down together, 2) I can only imagine how long such a battle really took.

I was wondering that myself. How long did that 18min video take in real time? Are we talking an hour, or more like 12?

Only description I saw was "Hours".
Looking at the target broadcast, the first target was called at 2:09 game time. At 16:20 in the video, the last target in the broadcast showed 3:26 game time. So, that's 1 hour 17 minutes.

EVE Online - the TV show (and comic books)
Based on player stories.
The League of Legends show will need to be on HBO due to language and mature themes.

But then think of all the kiddies that wouldn't technically be able to watch.

I believe the response from the LoL community would be along the lines of:
"Fuck those noobs" or "You mad bro?"

It was a fun game, when it was literally my job after college to lead space-fleets against each other
I swear I learned more about corporate life from Eve than College.

Says a lot about your college.

That's college in general. I've always said that I learned more about real life in the military than I did in college. I think there are a lot of examples were you get a better education out side of college than in. Probably about pretty much everything.

Yeah, my personal experience has been that college - at least on the academic side - sucks. Pretty universally.
Technical programs can be excellent, but academics is a hopeless train wreck at every institution I've attended / worked for.

Another EVE scandal.
I didn't love that game, but I do respect how committed their community is to the game.

I read a while back that within 24 hours of it having been put up, there was a Goonswarm decal stuck to it.
