Yep, DC is apparently going to have their own streaming service.
A new Superman prequel series called "Metropolis" will be on it.
I'm so excited by the prospects of paying for content by channel...

I'm ok with it. I don't want to pay for ESPN, ever.

There are lots of channels I don't want to pay for, but I don't want to miss out on one show because I'm not subscribed to a certain channel.
There will be a bumpy road for a bit as we're the unfortunate guinea pigs of this new reality. Then shit will sort out as most channels learn most people didn't give a fuck about them and they have to drop their subscription service.

That also goes for 95% of channels that I pay for, but never watch, but ESPN has my specific ire.
I'm ok with ala cart.

Let's hear why ESPN has your ire.

So bigotry?

I guess. I guess I am bigoted for not liking being forced to subsidize something in order to get something else that I actually want.
Probably racist, too.

Probably cuz most athletes are black.

Yeah. Or the poors watch ESPN more and it is my reparations to subsidize sports tv for them.

Well, yes.
I mean, I'm forced to pay for about 100 channels I never watch, but I don't declare that any have my specific ire. Not even Lifetime, which is a channel devoted to programming women into thinking all men are monsters.
So it has to be your blatant racism and hatred of the poor.

I am sorry that you are forced to pay for.those channels you don't want. That isn't right.

I don't get that comment. I was just pointing out that we all pay for channels we don't want. I do still even after cutting the cord.
Someday we'll get to the reason behind your intense hatred of sports. (Personally, I'm thinking a gym teacher touched you in inappropriate places.)

I think I have been pretty clear, I resent being forced to subsidize sports channels.
Considering every hotel room has 20 sports channels, I even subsidize it there. Fuck that. fuck ESPN.
But I'll go out right now and play some hockey, go skiing, go diiving, race you a mile in the pool. Sports are fine. Fuck ESPN.

To be fair to Gordon, ESPN is probably the most expensive packaged channel. A lot of those other channels are very low price. Also, many men suffer from low T.

According to that graph, I estimate I've paid over $1500 for a channel I've never watched.

I hadn't been sure of your intent with that last statement.

It's called capitalism and marketing. Most men like sports. They're, roughly, half the viewing audience. They also control the remote generally. ESPN is taking advantage of some truths. However, they grossly overplayed their hand by trying to shove New York/Boston, the NBA, and the SEC down everyone's throats. Gordon will be pleased to know that no channel is being decimated more by cable cutting than ESPN.
However, before we destroy ESPN, it makes you wonder why cable companies don't offer a "no sports" package. I know the easy answer is: They need the money to pay for ESPN. However, couldn't some have offered such a package just to use as a bargaining chip in negotiations with ESPN?

The two.dudes I hang out with irl, outside of the dtman circle, also have no use for ESPN. I know that's going to prompt many homo/low t speculations, but that's just how it is. It seems that ESPN only exists in it's current, massive form because of coercion.
I'm only happy with its failure if it stops costing me money.

I also estimate I've spent approximately $40k on home and auto insurance, that I've never used. Seems like there should be a point where they say, "hey, you've paid enough for now, just coast for free until you need it, then we'll talk again.". But no.

It's less fun when you say it.
GORDON wrote: I also estimate I've spent approximately $40k on home and auto insurance,
Oh man. I've used my home insurance about $17,500 worth. Before that, I had renter's insurance, and used it about $25,000 worth, which was a really good ROE since it was so much cheaper. I mean, aside from all the priceless stuff I lost in the fire, but whatevs.
