I've spent a decent amount of time on financial planning, etc... I see a lot of people aiming for FIRE (Financial Independence / Retire Early), and one of my friends has already done it. Admittedly, he's gay, his partner works, and he has no children.

I'm thinking I could be retired by now without children.

In my mid 30s, I had a plan for semi-retirement around age 40... but then we had a 2nd kid and bought a bigger house.

You're missing an "I don't know" option.

We're building a nice nest egg, but I honestly haven't given any thought to when. It'll depend where I am in my career at that point.

Well, that's a shitty plan :)

I guess I could also put in some semi-retirement stuff. I think optimistically, I could semi-retire at 50. Guess it depends on how the market does, overall, still.

I think Malcolm put "work until I die," but to be fair, he's gonna die in his 40s.

I assume any given day, I'll see a bloke in a black robe lugging a scythe behind him saying, "Sorry, there was a backlog you wouldn't fucking believe."

I ran the numbers over vacation. I might be able to retire at age 50... or 60. Just depends on lifestyle (or stock market returns)
