So right after Steve Harvey makes him mistake at the Miss America pageant, the Oscars pull the same "mistake".
Weird how two awards shows, that have been running for decades, have the same snafu in the same year, huh? I'm sure the lagging ratings for both did not factor into this whatsoever...
Bonus points for:
1. Allowing the huge fan favorite to "win" first and let speeches happen.
2. Having the minority created film win "for real".
And this is all just a year removed from black people boycotting the Oscars. Amazing coincidence...

I think it's kind of funny, but I seriously find it impossible to convey how little I care about the Oscars. I'm more than content to read about the high/low lights the next day.
Seriously, I'd rather watch the weather channel for those 4 hours (or however long they drone on). Maybe even a test pattern. I'd even take the color bars rather than the cool old school indian head.

Steve Harvey was 2015.

My wife likes to watch the red carpet, and I like to watch the intro stuff, and that's it. I don't really care about the awards themselves.

All that being said, I'm surprised La La Land didn't win. I've heard it described as Hollywood's love letter to themselves.

I didn't watch it either. Just heard about the "snafu" and watched the highlight this morning. One thing I wanted to point out is how they had a camera ready to focus on a cue card. Make special note of how the camera didn't need to zoom in...
Steve Harvey was 2015.
My bad on that, but it was recent enough that when he hosted again recently, that was used as the hook. Both shows struggle for ratings, and having people talking about your show is a big deal. Even if it's because of a mistake.
I LOVE movies, but the night dedicated to celebrating movies isn't about the movies I love. It's about networking, political statements, fashion, the celebration of celebrity, and pretentiousness. That last bit is why the box office numbers and all the nominations for best picture are rarely in alignment.
Oh, and here's another reason why they suck:
Suicide Squad now having more Oscars than The Shawshank Redemption with a win for Best Makeup and Hairstyling

Hah. Good point. One of the greatest movies ever, no awards.

Oops.
Janet Patterson, an Australian costume designer and four-time Oscar nominee (“The Piano,” “Portrait of a Lady,” “Oscar and Lucinda” and “Bright Star”) passed away in October 2015.
Her name and occupation were correct in the montage, but the photo used was of Jan Chapman, a still-living Australian film producer.

More of a blow job, really.

Haven't seen it, don't plan on seeing it. The more I hear the worse it sounds.

Wise choice.
