I heard that people who live there love the image that they love poor people, but instead they actually loath them and put spikes and stuff where homeless people like to sleep.

It's tough, the old SF crowd was clearly very pro homeless. Defensive buildings are awful monstrosities to them.

But new residents, mainly techies, want houses, houses that don't have homeless + their tents out front. I think the new techies are starting to push the demographic to be more anti-homeless. See this largely symbolic, but still useful prop that made it through in November: http://sf.curbed.com/2016/11/10/1357650 ... s-election

I've seen homeless all over the country, mainly in Atlanta and in a bunch of CA cities. I see the same homeless crew on my commute. In the Mission and Financial District, mostly. I'm uh... not their biggest fan.

Pretty sure there is tons of history on this issue but I've only scratched the surface and not sure I care to dig deeper. Expressing this and my views on the issue would not necessarily be a great idea in certain social settings.

Seems to me the more well to do in SF were fine with giving them the parks (as they had country clubs and big yards and didn't really need the parks), but now that the homeless are showing up where they shop and work it's becoming an issue. Only the poor people that used the parks were supposed to have to deal with them, and the poor are practically the same as homeless, right?
