The Walking Dead Season 7 has started off with a bang. Followed by another bang. Then a thud. Then a whole bunch of whacks and thuds and splatters.
Brilliant episode. I love the red herring...see what I did there?...first kill. Never saw the second one coming.
Every line was designed to throw you off. I also don't buy the bullshit complaint that "they dragged it out". For fuck's sake it happened 20 minutes into the episode you impatient twats. Do you want a good story with emotional payoffs or a bunch of random scenes with no buildup, and thus, mean nothing. I hate people.
Remember the chick who took the arrow through the eye? That's how Abraham died in the book. That happened, and then they kind of wrapped his plot lines at the end of season 6. He was a strong contender in my mind to die. So was Eugene who told Rick the formula for making bullets at the end of season 6 making him expendable. I also thought Maggie was possible because the woman who plays her broke down crying during a recent interview when asked about the scene.
Listen, I'm going to address the book here. What I'm going to say is VERY minor, but the difference between the show and book is interesting. In the book Maggie blames Rick, but not. She knows he couldn't have done anything, but she blames him for not trying while Glen was murdered in front of them. They seem to have shot that down immediately in this episode. They added a twist though. Instead of holding a grudge against Rick, and I'll come back to him, she could hold one against Daryl. Daryl's actions directly led to Glen's death. So that dynamic could get interesting.
As for Rick, that whole episode was about breaking him, and the one weak part in the script was that they didn't have Negan explain that he was worried killing Rick would make him a martyr. He wanted to scare him and show him the hopelessness of his situation, but not kill him. He needs workers not corpses.
