school to be sued into oblivion

Vultures should be descending any minute now.
He and I went to the school, went to the principal,” Daniel Fitzpatrick, Danny’s father, said. “All he got was ‘you’ll be fine,’ ‘is he in counseling?’ ‘You have to try harder, Danny.’ ‘I know I know, these things will pass.’ ‘Children can be such horrible creatures.’ They ain’t creatures, they’re monsters. Disgusting little monsters.”
Hey, at least one person has seen the light. Sure, his son had to kill himself before that happened. Children often get a pass on being pricks because "they're just kids."
“Daniel’s complaints about bullying did not fall upon deaf ears,” spokeswoman Carolyn Erstad said in a statement. “Conflicts with other students were never ignored. The principal and teachers truly cared for Daniel and did everything in their power to help him. The school provided counseling for Daniel, suspended students accused of bullying him, and met with those students' parents.
Did you try expelling the fuckers?

Or this?

Some people can only be helped by a baseball bat. Beat them to within an inch of their lives if the talking and hugs fail. If they still can't straighten up....

Something feels off about this story. My gut instinct is that we'll find out the kid was drugged to the gills with ADD meds or something along those lines.

There was a snippet of a Family Guy once.... a serial killer is sitting in a jail cell, and accidentally stabs himself in the thigh with a shiv. He says, "Ouch, holy crap, that hurts... is THAT what I've been doing to people all this time? Geez, I deserve to be in here."

So yeah, my views on crime and punishment come directly from Family Guy.

Something feels off about kids simply being assholes?

“I hope the memory of what you’ve done to my son is burned in your brain for the rest of your life and you suffer as much as he has suffered under your b*******,” he said.
That seems unlikely. There were probably a couple of high-fives involved after they heard the news that the kid had rage-quit life like a noob.

No, that's pretty normal. Been going on since we started living as clans. Caveboys weren't throwing themselves in front of sabertooth tigers over it.

You mean back when beating the shit out of someone was an acceptable response for virtually everything?

I agree. In the short term this means nothing to them.

Later in life, once they understand life...IF they understand life...it'll haunt them.

The older I get the more people I think have absolutely zero self awareness, they only know eat shit fuck. I used to think that number was small, but I begin to wonder if it is almost typical.

Well, some of them branch out into some subset of drink smoke pray watch game as well.

I don't think it's typical. I suspect less than half. But not by all that much. The younger generation usually strives for more and then loses interest in more over time as they age. The trick isn't to get more olds to care, it's to get less of the youngs to lose interest. I think we're making progress there.

Yeah but "slightly less than half" is still way more than I ever thought. I used to be an optimist, I thought everyone was good, or wanted to be. Now I realize some people don't even recognize the concept.

On the bright side most of the rest don't want to be bad. They're just ... apathetic. Uncaring. The ones that actually want to take the time to be evil are few. IMO.

Thus, my baseball bat therapy. If they lack empathy, teach them about negative consequences. Pain is an awesome motivator.

False, if you mean long-term motivation. You can't beat a conscience into a sociopath.

I bet I could get you to admit otherwise with a baseball bat. I bet you a billion dollars I could.

edit - You snuck an edit in there. It just said "False" when I hit the quote button.

I didn't say anything about instilling a conscience, I meant aversion and conditioning.

Doesn't matter. Unless you're around constantly to readminister the bat therapy whenever the patient slips, you've accomplished little to nothing. And slip they will unless you have something better than "beat your ass every time you fuck up."

Also I bet you couldn't make me, even with the bats they used back in the '20s. I'd be stubborn just for annoyance's sake.

I like the "beat your ass every time you fuck up" idea.

Greatest book and movie in the world already explored that idea.
"Choice," rumbled…the prison charlie. "He has no real choice, has he? Self-interest, fear of physical pain, drove him to that grotesque act of self-abasement. Its insincerity was clearly to be seen. He ceases to be a wrongdoer. He ceases also to be a creature capable of moral choice."
