The Visit

Two kids go to visit their grandparents that they've never met.

I always wondered about this horror movie. I saw the previews, thought it looked dumb, and then never heard about it again. However, there it was on HBO free weekend, so I DVRed.

Started it up tonight and saw "Written and Directed by M. NIght Shamalamadingdong". Uh oh...

To be fair, looking back upon the film, it's not horrible. The story telling is solid despite it being about the patented M. Night swerve. Since you know the swerve is coming, the whole time you're just trying to decide what the swerve is, and honestly, they don't do a bad job of disguising it. However, there's a limited number of choices, so it's not impossible to figure out.

The real problem this movie has is the pace is brutally slow, and the two kids are kind of dumb. There's some shit that goes on that should have gotten immediate 911 calls, yet they do nothing. Without spoiling things, I had issues with the grandparents' behavior too. It was inconsistent.

Anyway, if you can tolerate M. Night's stuff, I would rank this below The Village, but above Signs.

I thought it was ok. The kid was appropriately creeped out.

We liked it. I wasn't a big fan of The Village, so I'd rate this one higher. Actually liked the Village until the end, and then I thought they were just trying to come up with some way to end a movie that had a neat premise but no real threaded plot.

The little brother (germaphobe) freaking out because they ran out of tissue or whatever. I looked at the wife and said he was her spirit animal.
