Were I a crazy millionaire, I'd buy it then go over every claim ever made against that house and systematically destroy them.

And people would not listen to you, because they have no patience for in-depth analyses and want to believe in unscience (as a time- and mental effort-saving measure).

What's a "Target bomb"?

Some woman bombed a Target bathroom

The IMMEDIATE reaction from all of FB and Twitter was "Christians bombed a bathroom due to Target's gender-bathroom policy. No factual basis for that claim at the moment or ever, as far as I know.
"There is no factual evidence that was uncovered during this investigation that points toward this incident being related to any policies of the Target store or a hate crime," the release states.

Evanston police Cmdr. Joe Dugan said speculation circulated this week that the explosion might be tied to the company's policy to let transgender patrons use the bathroom of their choice.

"It was just speculation," he said. "There's nothing that leads to that at all."

One reason for that immediate reaction was that the cops stated at the time that they were "looking into" the possibility of that being the case. The quote above comes after the investigation, but before hand they helped start that very rumor.

Although it's probably not their fault. Most likely some media person asked "is it related?" an they were forced to respond "we can't rule that out at this time" (because at the start of the investigation you can't rule out anything) and suddenly it's the center of every story and post. Because the media are stupid and don't have the slightest clue how investigation works. Which makes perfect sense when you consider that journalism is completely unrelated to anything regarding accurately discovering and cataloging facts.
