Boggle

My old Win7 laptop is not recognizing my GoPro clone as a mass storage device. It is charging just fine, but the camera isn't giving me the "mass storage?" prompt like it does when I plug it into my home pc.

Any thoughts?

I wondered about USB version compatibility, but I also tried it on a 2 year old laptop, and it isn't connecting there, either.

I recorded a long dive video today and I wanna see it.

Maybe it needs drivers?

Have you tried a couple different USB cables?

As you said, these are older computers. Maybe the drivers weren't in Windows yet. I'm presuming they aren't completely up-to-date or they'd have been forced onto Windows 10 by now. :P

Good call, I turned off the updating about 6 months ago...... but I wouldn't think that would be it.................................

But don't know. Aside from swapping cables, which I haven't done yet, I don't know what the issue could be.

The fact the camera isn't asking me "bulk storage/web cam/battery charge" mode suggests the problem COULD be in the camera itself... if so I will just have to pull the micro-SD card when I get home, put it in the adapter, and pull the videos off the old fashioned way.

I wonder if this hotel has a business center. I could pull the video directly to a USB drive and also get a virus to take home.

Boggle solved.

It's the old laptop PCs that I brought.

I plugged the camera into the USB port of the PC in the lobby of this hotel, and as soon as I selcted "mass storage" on the camera the PC opened a window so I could see files. Then I plugged in a USB stick into another port, and I copied the files over, no problem.

So yeah, I've had my laptop for 10 years and never upgraded because I didn't need to..... maybe outdated USB ports is a good excuse.

Too bad all my money went into scuba lessons.

You can pick up an older tablet with enough horsepower for your needs for cheap, I bet. Refurbs on special at newegg are a decent place to start.

Word, thanks for the advice.

Let's see, things I need to save up for, in order:

- New desktop PC, I am getting tired of 3 blue screens every day.

- Kayaks.

- Handgun for concealed carrying.

- New portable computing device with USB ports.

Sigh.

White people problems.

Well that's just pieces, I hope, and not the entire rig.

Already replaced the video card, that helped 75% of the problems, but they are getting bad again.

At this point the oldest part in the PC is about 4, and none of it is getting younger..... time for a new rig.

Yep, I quote Simon Phoenix as often as I can.

Simon says die.

He would've been nailed on tax evasion anyhow, then iced again.
