It was poison, the guy is just an idiot. Not only did he not take into account the fact that he'd be seen on camera, but he didn't mix the chemicals correctly to be harmful.

I'm thinking starve him for about 3 days then offer him food, but sprinkle liquid on it first. Every three days, for a long time.
