The latest Daniel Craig James Bond film, and had been rumored to be his last, but IMDB is showing him as possibly being Bond again in the 25th Bond film.
Pro tip that's also a mild spoiler: You should watch all the other Daniel Craig Bond movies (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall...in that order) prior to watching this film. The entire story here is tied directly into all the previous films. I don't think that's a fact they really made public.
Probably wise because that's the fact that drags this movie down. It's been a long time since I've watched any of those other films, so when the big bad was revealed I didn't gasp, but just thought to myself "who?"
So right out of the gate, I have no interest in the main villain and despite a strong performance by Christoph Waltz, he just wasn't interesting. Perhaps it's because he was on screen for maybe 5 minutes total, or perhaps it's because I had no clue who the fuck he was or bought into his grand scheme.
And that takes us to a larger problem, the plot is shit. Utter and complete shit. I won't spoil it, but what the villains try to pull off is meaningless. Hilariously, we're even show a timer for when this evil plan begins, and it's all just pointless.
Beyond that, the pace of the film is slow, they actually give Bond a "the whisper of a woman brings him back" moment completely against his character, Q somehow gets ridiculous job skills that make the villains' plan look even stupider, and holy shit could I go on.
Craig is a really good Bond, but aside from Casino Royale, his tenure has been plagued with terrible writing.
Bond fans will need to see it. The rest of you should go watch Casino Royale again.
