Paul posted the following in the Cloverfield thread. I figure it should get its own thread since it's a new movie...
Paul's post revealing the first trailer for the film:
TPR's comment:
Unless there's a fourth person in that bunker that never lets anyone else hold the camera and is very good at standing still, then that's not a found-footage style movie.
Maybe I can watch this one without puking.

Heh. Looks like after the Stars, both Trek and Wars, JJ wanted to do something small so he made a 3-man drama in a bunker and put it in the Cloverfield universe.

Looks like a non-comedy version of Blast From the Past. (An excellent movie, by the way.)

Fuck that film. One of the few walken flicks I can't stand.

Interesting theory about 10 Cloverfield Lane.
It sure does seem to fit that trailer, huh? It also explains how this film didn't seem to exist until the trailer dropped.

Interesting movie. Need to digest. Not what I expected.

Does it fit the theory behind the article I linked?

Well, the article is just speculating. What theory?

How it was originally just about Goodman holding folks hostage and the studio knew it wasn't great, so they rewrote elements of it to fit Cloverfield to trick people into seeing it...

Oh. I thought that was just a well-known fact, not a theory.

And at this point I had a paragraph written, but I decided to erase it. I went into the movie not knowing whether or not it would fit into the Cloverfield-universe proper, and I think it is more fun of you have zero knowledge, like I did. After someone else has seen it we can do a spoiler thread.

My kid had a good review of the movie: "I can't believe I liked a movie that was just 3 people sitting around talking."

Start the spoiler thread.
I didn't enjoy the movie as much as Gordon's kid despite some good acting. I really can't say more without spoilers.

I realized the other day that this was a movie about the dangers of taking selfies.
Spoilers follow.
Everything was generally fine and then the final straw is them finding the selfie with the missing girl. Next thing you know, BAM, people are dying and there's aliens.
