The Expanse is a new SyFy original series that started in December. After three episodes I'm hooked. It's pretty good and has interesting potential. The sci-fi aspects are pretty solid (ignoring how they are handling free fall, of course, but shooting a whole series of people floating around would be too expensive so I'll let that go). The core story is shaping up to be a political thriller sort of thing with a lot of unknowns that are still to be figured out. There's the threat of interplanetary war on the horizon and there's only a handful of people bothering to wonder why and how to stop it.
Of course it could take a turn for the stupid at any moment, but so far it's solid. I recommend.

Watching the first one. Decent so far - lotta commercials on the back end. (online)

Ep 3 had the mormons too. Good shit - has anyone read the books?
I'll have to try hard not to finish the seven eps by this weekend.
e: Oh it's an ongoing series and there is another this Tuesday.

I am two episodes in.
My problem is that "political thriller" is almost my least favorite genre of movie, so I am just barely holding on.

So you like chick flicks?

Yes, because those are the only two genres of entertainment.

You said "least." That means you think everything and anything else is better than "political thriller."

Actually, there are a single handful of chick flicks I kind of like. I still dislike the majority of them. But I'd still rather watch one of my handful than a political thriller. I don't need to be reminded that people are generally shitty and deceitful and usually get away with it.

Have we ever had a thread on the SciFi books this tv series based on?
Because the books are super good. And the latest one "Babylon's Ashes" was released in November. I finished it last weekend. Was more solid work in the series, was kind of like a continuation of 5 and closed most of the threads.

If you like science fiction and specifically ship-based fiction you will enjoy this series - like the Master and Commander or Firefly style media. The books have been weekend binges for me.

Last faction. The Belters, known for their elongated bodies and fragile bones.
And that's who owns the solar system.

Back tonight for the third season. Woohoo! Picking up where it left off, with what I assume to be a straight up inter-solar-system war.
e: And someone posted that SyFy doesn't bleep stuff anymore? So TV Avasarala is free to curse as much as her book counterpart. That is to say, A FUCKING SHIT LOAD YOU GODDAMN CUNTS!
