Getting new writers.
Apparently, they took a lot of heat over the last film.

The things they list as problems were the primary strengths of Into Darkness.
If that is the thinking behind this move, this is bad news for the reboot.

eh, I can see both sides of the argument.
I loved Into the Darkness, but I will admit that I thought the "death" scene sucked. It ripped me out of my immersion because it had been done previously, and better. Ditto for the villain.
I wish he had simply been who he was billed as in the beginning. That specific villain should not have been a twist, but an event.

I don't think they could possibly make me care any less about this franchise. Saw the first one and they completely killed all interest I had in it. The best thing this had going for it was that Thor was Kirk's dad.

I hope this time we can get something kinda new and not another, "OK here's another encounter that we already saw once but let's do it again in the new timeline and turn it on its head!" Although, I would accept a meeting with Q or the Borg. They are Big Bads will be out there in either timeline.

They mention the baddie in the article, but I didn't recognize the name.

I think that was a joke.... the Horta was the misunderstood thing that eats rocks that was just protecting its eggs from the miners who didn't know they were eggs.

First draft finished.
Looks like we may get this movie faster than anticipated.

Looks like filming will begin soon.
They really need to get this show back on TV or Netflix.

Director drops out.
Not as bad as you might think. Apparently, he's never directed before. So this is probably a case of them protecting the franchise and him. This seems likely as he's staying on a producer.
Among the names as a possible replacement is Edgar Wright... He might not be the best for the action sequences, but I expect we'd see a lot more from the characters.

As much as I've been a fan of the reboots, this series could do with less action and more character. As long as they are smart about it and really think about what has been done to these characters and how psychologically scaring it has to have been so far. And not just try to steer everything back to good old TOS, which would be the worst thing they could do from this point.

They need to get that Netflix series going and build these characters.
Spock and Kirk had a friendship you cared about because you already saw it a hundred times in action.
