Aliens start landing in a London housing projects, and the local teen punks deal with it.
I can't decide if I liked it, because the protagonists were impossible for me to not loath.

Yeah, I had the same reaction. I kept rooting for them to get killed.

Ditto. They tried to make us more sympathetic to them later in the film with their sob stories, but it didn't work. I don't care if you are essentially an abandoned child, threatening innocent people with violence to steal from them makes you an asshole.
Did you notice that Moses, the leader of the punks, is one of the leads in the new Star Wars film?
Overall it was enjoyable for what it was, but not at all deserving of the hype it received.

Some aliens accidentally find themselves in the shit estates of London when some NEDs kill one of them. The aliens proceed to wreak havoc in a quest of righteous vengeance. Someone needs to make the flick from their point of view, because I was pulling for them the entire time.
